Con Edison, one of the largest energy companies in the United States, has taken an innovative approach to the electric utility industry with the establishment of a battery farm in Queens, New York.
Energy storage is one of the most fascinating aspects of the energy industry right now and solar panel arrays have increasingly been installed alongside a battery storage system in recent years. The technology itself may not be new, but the innovative approaches certainly are. Con Edison’s new battery farm is a first for the company and you can find it innocuously hidden away in Ozone Park, Queens.
Energy storage has been a hot topic through the energy industry in recent years, with the solar sector in particular seeking to embrace the technology, so it’s no surprise to see Con Edison turning to battery storage as a way of futureproofing. Across New York, individuals and entities concerned with progressive energy practices have sought innovation just like this in order to expand the city’s electric capacity.
Straying beyond conventional energy practices, Con Edison will take the forward-thinking step of launching their new battery farm later this month. In addition to the financial savings - an energy storage facility is considerably cheaper than a new sub-station - this energy storage facility is far more environmentally friendly, with no carbon emissions and minimal noise. If this project goes well, it could be a springboard for Con Edison and anyone else concerned with energy development to pursue storage-based solutions around New York City and, indeed, across the country.
